Training and Qualifications
Daniel qualified (MA in Clinical Psychology) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2014. Working at UCT’s Child Guidance Clinic, he was trained in various psychotherapy and psychological assessment approaches. Thereafter, his professional focus was directed toward working with others who have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and/or psychiatric issues, in addition to neuropsychological work.
Professional Experience
- Clinical Internship at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital
During this time, Daniel worked at the Male Admissions Unit for acute psychosis, as well as Alexandra Hospital (intellectual disability unit) and the J2 Psychiatry Outpatient Unit. He also worked within Valkenberg’s Forensic Unit and at Hanover Park Community Health Clinic. The work during 2015 involved individual, couples and family therapy for clients struggling with a wide variety of psychological conditions. He also conducted psychometric and neuropsychological assessments and worked closely with Valkenberg’s multi-disciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, doctors, nursing staff, social workers and occupational therapists.
- Community Service Clinical Psychologist at Khayelitsha District Hospital
Khayelitsha (Xhosa for ‘our new home’) is thought to be one of the largest and fastest growing townships in South Africa. The township (estimated population more than 2.4 million people) is served by one district-level hospital and several community health clinics.
During this time, Daniel collaborated with the hospital’s psychological, psychiatric and medical teams in order to provide relevant assessments and therapy for a broad range of psychiatric difficulties. He also provided outreach therapy services at two community health clinics; and following his posting serves as a consignment locum clinician.

Academic Experience
Daniel co-authored (with Dr Wahbie Long) and published two academic papers in the South African Journal of Psychology. Abstracts can be viewed here and here.
In 2012, He worked as a research assistant for Don Foster, former Professor of psychology at U.C.T. During this year, he also gave a formal academic presentation at the International Congress of Pscyhology in Cape Town; and in 2013 he presented at the European Congress of Psychology in Stockholm.
